Diet Pills and Patches

With so many diet pills, herbalife diet programs and grapefruit diet pills on the market today you may be asking yourself which dieting plan you should consider purchasing - if any. As every ad promises you a diet pill that works, the choice is really difficult. These ads for diet pills and wonder herbal life weight loss product are almost everywhere - on TV and the radio, in magazines and newspapers, even on the Internet. They entice you with heartfelt testimonials, unbelievable before-and-after pictures, new herbalife diet information, prescription diet pills and the inevitable money-back guarantees. All you have to do is run out and purchase the latest, hottest, weight loss miracle in a nice bottle...

There are many reasons to proceed with extreme caution when using diet pills or herbal weight loss remedies. While it's true that sometimes you may actually lose a little weight with them, the pounds return once you stop taking the product. Most of these best proven weight loss pills quick fixes include a small-print recommendation that you also adopt a lower-calorie diet and an exercise program - which is going to help you lose weight anyway. And supplements generally aren't well regulated, so the actual content of the active ingredients in diet pills can vary widely from product to product.

Even more worrisome, all diet pills have potentially dangerous side effects. Everyone knows that people who take prescription medications need to check with their physicians before using any type of weight loss supplement. A doctor should do the prescription diet pill reviews before you start using them. But even healthy people who aren't taking any other meds have experienced negative health effects from nighttime diet pills or daily ones. The conclusion seems to be crystal clear: always check with your physician before you take anything that promises to "melt off the weight." Also, if you're still thinking about taking a diet pill, read the label for the active ingredients and check out whether there's any basis to their claims especially whether they're potentially dangerous. Be cautious about cheap diet pills bontril, hoodia gordonii weight loss pills (hoodia weight loss pills), zantrex diet pills, propolene weight loss pills or any less known wonder diet pills from Europe.

Diet Patches are a form of medication that release herbal nutrients through the skin. The idea is to provide a consistent dose of medication over a long period of time. Patches are often used by those who have trouble remembering to take pills with regularity. A number of treatments have been distributed this way - such as Nicorette anti-smoking medication, and even Hormone Replacement Therapy for women.

Some transdermal patches are a valid method for drug dosage (such as Estrogen delivery). However, the herbalife weight loss or diet patch lies in a 'grey area' of medical science. Diet patches are not FDA approved, so you're not defended of some potential dangers of diet patches.

Most diet patches claim that the herbal ingredients in the patch will burn fat, suppress appetite, and stimulate metabolism. The jury is out on this one, as often it is hard to isolate the effect of the patch from dieting and exercising. The vitamins for weight loss they claim to stimulate are difficult to evaluate. It is hard to see how a patch could burn fat, however there may certainly be appetite suppression effects and/or metabolism effects (similar to herbal diet pills).

The multi-million dollar US industry in the US offers today a multitude of diet pills, diet supplements, and weight loss formulas to choose from.

Are there any diet pills or diet supplements that work?

The reality is however, there is a risk of side effects from virtually all diet pills. What's worse is that some simply don't work at all. There is a lot of deceptive marketing that goes on when advertising weight loss supplements - if you are taking care of your diet and exercise, it is difficult to tell exactly how effective the supplement is.

The main thing supplements help accomplish is providing chemical support for regulating appetite and for burning accumulated fat. There are many "fat burners" on the market. They work in a variety of ways with varying degrees of effectiveness. The term we'll use here to describe "fat burning" is thermogenesis. Thermogenesis is the creation of heat from the stored energy that is fat.

The primary ingredient in the most successful products on the market that produce thermogenesis is mahuang/ephedra, an herb with a five-thousand-year history of successful use. There has been much controversy about ephedra's benefits and safety as a dietary supplement. Most recently, key testimony at a conference sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Women's Health provided overwhelming, evidence by consumers, treating physicians, scientists, organizations, research consulting firms and trial studies (both at Columbia and Harvard Universities) showing that the use of up to 90 milligrams of ephedra a day is safe and effective as a tool for weight management.

The secondary ingredient (for the purposes of fat burning) is caffeine, usually extracted from the guarana nut. The third ingredient important for fat burning is usually white willow bark/salicin extract. These three compounds constitute the base ingredients of the most successful fat burners on the market. They constitute a "stack" that, added together, produce a fat-burning synergy whose safety and effectiveness have been highly documented.

There are diet drugs that work (available only by prescription and medical supervision required). If you have severe weight problems and have experienced no results from all the other products listed on this site, talk to your doctor about the possibility of using prescription weightloss drugs. These are powerful drugs that again may have side effects. Used under proper medical supervision, they can be of great help in controlling appetite and losing weight. Which drug(s) you take should be determined after checking with your doctor. It's also important to ask your doctor to test you for thyroid problems, in which case you may need different medications. There are other hormone deficiencies, such as DHEA or testosterone, that can also contribute to weigh gain and difficulty in losing weight. Your doctor can test for these deficiencies as well, and determine if you need medication to correct the problem.
