Sugar

  • Drink only sugar-free or low sugar versions of beverages.
  • Decrease sugar in baking.
  • Buy low-sugar and sugar-free foods.

A reminder on �sugar-free'

A �sugar-free' diet must not be taken in its strict literal sense. Note that sugar is also important in maintaining your balanced nutrition without harming the blood glucose levels.

What is advised is that your consumption of simple carbohydrates like sucrose, fructose or glucose in cakes and jams must be kept to its minimum. The reason is that simple carbohydrates, particularly in beverages, are more easily absorbed by the body and push the level of sugar in the blood further upwards.

But simple carbohydrates in small amounts can be absorbed slowly if combined with large quantities of complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat bread.
